About Me

Brad
I obtained a psychology degree from London University in the early 1970s, around the time the pendulum of orthodoxy was about to swing from the Behaviorist extreme to the Evolutionary Psychology extreme. I chose to study psychology because I wanted to discover why it was that my parents were two emotionally stunted individuals who endured an unhappy marriage to the bitter end. The university curriculum didn't provide any answers, but I did learn a lot about the behavior patterns of rats and pigeons. Afterwards I enrolled for a M.Sc. in neurophysiology. By the time I passed the final exams I was completely disillusioned. I realized there were far too many neuroscientists who took pride in theories of behavior that were totally facile. Psychiatrists too. Then, as now, brain researchers were convinced they were only a few years away from a complete explanation of all human behavior. Back then, they believed they could deliver the goods without having to investigate emotions and feelings. In the end I decided to choose a completely different career.
